There’s an old saying that the only two certainties in life are death and taxes! We’d like to add another which, though not a certainty for all men, remains an annoying problem for many of us. We’re talking about hair loss. Over time you’ll notice your hair becoming thinner, bald patches on the top of your head and then – one day – you’ll realise you’re going bald! What’s it all about? Why does it happen and what can you do about it?
The thing about hair loss is that while it is a natural process, there are factors that influence it. For example, a condition known as Male Pattern Baldness (MPB) is very common. It is believed to affect more than 60% of men by the age of 35, and some even earlier. It’s a complex and naturally occurring routine involving hormonal changes in the body, the effect of which is to accelerate hair loss.
There are also other factors include genetics – simply, if your father was bald early, you’re more likely to and certain lifestyle influences. Anxiety – and we all suffer from it at times – can also exaggerate hair loss in men, as can poor nutrition and a lack of iron intake. There are also some medical conditions that will speed up the hair loss routine. What can you do about it?
How to Slow Down Hair Loss
Let’s be honest here: baldness is not something that can be cured as such. What you can do is choose to undergo a hair transplant – a very expensive routine that may or may not be successful – or any number of procedures including scalp reduction, in which part of the skin is removed and stretched to bring the hair together (we think it sounds horrible too) and laser treatment.
This excellent hair loss guide gives you more information on the causes of hair loss and the various possible treatments. What it also covers is the many hair loss products you can buy that may help enhance the growth of your hair and slow down the onset of baldness. These include shampoos and lotions, plus some clinically proven products such as Minoxidil and Finasteride.
Minoxidil is applied directly to the scalp as a lotion and has been proven to enrich hair growth in many users. It works by enriching the nutrients that feed the hair follicles, and we recommend you check out the irritant-free example offered by the Freshman range.
Finasteride is taken as a tablet and includes substances the reduce the levels of the hormone known to accelerate the onset of MPB – known as DHT – and is available from the same range of Freshman products. This has also been clinically trialled and proven to be safe.
It is recommended that you talk to a medical professional before taking either of these – or any other such – products to be on the safe side, but we recommend you check them out further as they could help slow down your hair loss.
